With all of the recent injuries to big names hitting the Ravens hard and heavy, I figured it was a great time to look back at the injury situations of these ailed players.
- Injured Reserve (out for season): CB Julian Wilson (broken leg), SS Matt Elam (torn biceps), WR Cam Worthy (foot fracture), DL Micajah Reynolds (undisclosed), TE Allen Reisner (broken ankle), OLB Zach Thompson (undisclosed), OLB Terrell Suggs (torn Achilles), WR Michael Campanaro (herniated disk)
- Physically Unable To Perform List (PUP): TE Dennis Pitta (dislocated hip)
If Pitta were to return, the earliest he can do so is in Week 7, versus the Cardinals.
- Injured Reserved-Designated For Return: DE Brent Urban (torn biceps)
Urban can resume practicing as early as Week 6, once he starts practicing, there is a three-week window in which he must participate in game action. If he doesn't find his way on the field, he must be placed on the season-ending injured reserve. This special designation is reserved for only one player on the team per season.
- Currently Injured, Status Unclear: WR Steve Smith, Sr. (broken ribs/back bones), TE Crockett Gillmore (calf), LT Eugene Monroe (concussion), DL Chris Canty (calf), WR Breshad Perriman (PCL/knee)
It's hard to think of another team in the NFL so drastically affected by injuries this season, but here the Ravens are in Week 4, missing many key contributors, but still alive and kicking. Injuries to the secondary are what held last year's squad back, and thus far, injuries in general are greatly hindering this team.
If anything, both players and coaches for the Ravens preach the 'next man up' philosophy, and it's something that the team and its fans will have to get used to.
