Steve Smith has not changed his plans to retire after the 2015 season. Mike Florio wrote an article saying that the Ravens should trade him to a contender . I don't agree with that assessment. A receiver that's going to retire right after the season isn't going to land the Ravens anything special and the Ravens need him more than anyone else does.
Peyton D. Smith, the son of Steve Smith, agrees with Mike Florio and says that the Panthers should be working up a trade right now.
Panthers should trade all their receivers to Baltimore and bring back my dad. #dreamteam— P (@peytondsmith) October 18, 2015
The Panthers are certainly a contender. At 5-0, they're in command of the NFC South division and right behind the Green Bay Packers in the NFC race. Steve Smith played on the Panthers for 13 seasons and it seems right for him to try and win a Super Bowl with the team that he had his best years with.
The Ravens could certainly use some help at receiver, as we're still waiting for Perriman to make his debut, Kamar Aiken really shouldn't be a #2, Marlon Brown is continuing to show that his 2013 season was a fluke, and Darren Waller has yet to make any significant contributions.
But I don't think that the Panthers have the answer either, unless they gave the Ravens Greg Olsen or a healthy Kelvin Benjamin.
Panther fans would probably like to see one of their all-time greats retire in Carolina and we would all like to see Steve Smith win a Super Bowl. But a Ravens-Panthers trade just isn't going to happen. At least not for the likes of Brenton Bersin, Kevin Norwood, Corey Brown, Devin Funchess, and Ted Ginn Jr.
