Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees explains issues

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees explains the lack of communication on defense this season which is actually a refreshing stance considering all of the politically correct answers that have been given by coaches and players for the previous five weeks.

The Ravens are horrible on third down. Look at these numbers:

  • The Ravens allow a 49 percent conversion rate on third down which is ranked 31st in the NFL.
  • The Ravens rank last in the NFL allowing the most third downs a game at 7.8 a game.
  • The Ravens rank last in the NFL allowing the most third down attempts per game at 15.8.

The only good thing that can be said about this stat is the fact that the Ravens don't give up first downs immediately too often. The Ravens are in position to get off the field all the time. They actually do a solid job on first and second down. Third down defense has destroyed this unit. And right now the team has no answer for it.

Pees may be right that it is all about discipline on the field. But that is easier said than done.
