Having been charged with a fourth-degree sex offense on an M&T Bank Stadium employee, Ravens senior security director, Darren Sanders, has been placed on paid leave by the team. The actions taken by the Ravens on Sanders, regardless of guilt fall into line with the National Football League's personal conduct policy.
According to attorneys for Sanders, a former Baltimore City Police homicide detective, he has denied all allegations.
"He is innocent and looks forward to his day in court," read a statement from Sanders' lawyers, the firm of Alperstein & Diener.
"Mr. Sanders has worked his entire career to keep others safe as a police officer and as a detective with the Baltimore City Police Department and currently as the senior security director for the Baltimore Ravens. He is a man who possesses tremendous integrity, and he has worked to ensure public safety by protecting the health, welfare and security of the community."
The Associated Press reported Sanders will have a grievance hearing on January 15th and 16th.
For the sake of everyone involved, let's hope that this is the last negative piece of news surrounding the Ravens in what has been far from a storybook year for the franchise.
