Baltimore Beatdown's Ravens-Panthers predictions

Baltimore Beatdown's writers weigh in on this week's Ravens-Panthers game.

Patrick Smith

Rocky Friedman: The Ravens secondary will continue to struggle even against another weak receiving corps. However, the front seven will excel and apply heavy pressure on Cam Newton leading to four Ravens' turnovers. Steve Smith will be fired up against his former team and the Ravens will take this one. Prediction: Ravens 24, Panthers 16

Matthew Stevens: The Panthers' run game is so dinged up already that the tough Ravens' defense doesn't have trouble with it. However, the Panthers quick-hitting pass attack catches the Ravens on two drives. Steve Smith has a solid game but rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro is the star as he rushes for one touchdown and 86 yards against a big Panthers' front seven. Justin Tucker kicks a field goal and the ravens defense holds one last time to win the game. Prediction: Ravens 17, Panthers 14

Dylan Guy: The Panthers' offense is stifled for most of the game and the Ravens struggle with the losses of Dennis Pitta and Eugene Monroe. But the run game does just enough, Steve Smith has a big game and Jacoby Jones finally runs one back to make the difference. Prediction: Ravens 20, Panthers 14

Kyle Barber: This will be a game of struggling offenses. The Panthers are weak receiving and have rushing threats that can't get started. James Hurst struggles against a tough front seven targeting gaps near the UDFA. Baltimore's defense looks strong not allowing a touchdown in two straight games. Smith Sr. does not live up to expectations. Prediction: Ravens 17, Panthers 12

Michael Sedjro: Jimmy Smith is the MVP of the game, shutting down Benjamin with his first career pick-six. Terrell Suggs comes through with three sacks and total domination of Byron Bell. It's tough sledding for the offense throughout most of the game but Torrey Smith breaks out, hitting big plays and being the most effective Smith of the afternoon. Prediction: Ravens 24, Panthers 12

Daniel Park: The Ravens unleash the beast, Steve Smith, if they haven't done so already, and smash the Panthers and grind them up in a blender for Smith's breakfast Monday. Prediction: Ravens 34, Panthers 20

Jason Butt: Steve Smith breaking out against his former team is a popular storyline. But like we saw with DeSean Jackson against the Eagles (albeit in a loss), Smith is too good of a receiver to not have a big game against his former team. You can bet he'll be calling for the ball and Joe Flacco will get it to him. And the defense shouldn't have too many problems with this Carolina offense. Prediction: Ravens 24, Panthers 16

Brian Malan: Joe Flacco. Steve Smith. That is all. Prediction: Ravens 31, Panthers 10
