Four veteran starters missing Wednesday's practice

In preparation for their first non-divisional game of the season, the Ravens had four veterans absent during Wednesday's practice.

Per WNST Baltimore Ravens reporter Luke Jones, cornerback Jimmy Smith (leg), linebacker Terrell Suggs (groin), Eugene Monroe (knee) and defensive end Chris Canty missed the portion of practice open to the media.

Head Coach John Harbaugh announced today that Monroe will take "some number of weeks" to heal from the surgical procedure. Without Eugene Monroe, the offensive line's blocking schemes will need to make quick adjustments in preparation for the Panthers' stout front four.

Suggs downplayed the significance of his groin injury after the win in Cleveland. There is good news for the banged up Ravens. Bernard Pierce participated in Wednesday's practice -- if Pierce is cleared to play this weekend we're looking at his contributions to bolster a rotation that rushed for 154 total yards against the Browns. Workhorses Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett split carries, totaling 29 attempts.

The Steelers rushing attack shredded the Panthers' defense for 265 yards and the Ravens will look to kick a dead horse's head while its down.
