Three Ravens receivers fighting for two spots in position group

Who makes the 53-man roster at receiver? The three options are Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken and Deonte Thompson.

Baltimore's 23-17 win over Washington provided possibly the last opportunities for a few positions to work themselves out.

One of those is at receiver, which has been a competitive group all preseason. But after the first four guys — Torrey Smith, Steve Smith, Jacoby Jones and Marlon Brown — three receivers have emerged for what will probably be the final two spots.

Those three players are Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken and Deonte Thompson. Thompson, who had a 108-yard kickoff return against Dallas a week ago, came up big with a 21-yard touchdown reception from Tyrod Taylor. Coach John Harbaugh was asked about Thompson's chances at the 53-man roster after the game.

"Deonte, he's making plays, and it's not just in the game, he's making those plays in practice," Harbaugh said. "Deonte has fought through a lot of things over his career. To see him do that, it just makes you happy to see a guy play like that. He's a guy that works hard, he has a great attitude, he always comes to work every day, [he is] respectful of the process, loves football, and to see a guy like that have success is a great thing."

Aiken, who's had a good preseason overall, had a drop (though it was a tough pass to catch) and was targeted just one other time and didn't record a catch.

Campanaro, though, had a solid showing in the second half. He had two catches for 24 yards and returned a kickoff 43 yards.

If Saturday's game holds a lot of weight, it would appear Thompson and Campanaro hold an advantage over Aiken.

"This last week [and] this last game coming up is going to be huge," Campanaro told reporters after the game. "[I'm] just trying to go out there and make plays, show the coaching staff what I can do [and] show some of these older guys — show them that I'm here to help the team win."
