Ravens running back Bernard Pierce had his bell rung by Washington head hunter Brandon Meriweather and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation.

Pierce took a helmet-to-helmet hit during the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game between the Ravens and Redskins. He was slow to get up and hasn't played since. The Ravens have used a mixture of Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett since.
Meriweather's hit on Pierce was legal since it wasn't against a defenseless receiver. However, he did draw a 15-yard penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit later in the game on Torrey Smith, which should draw a fine from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
It's easy to be outraged at Meriweather's continued recklessness. Then again, Haloti Ngata did this in the same game. So it's hard for either side to be outraged at perceived classlessness when both teams had members commit unnecessary acts of idiocy.
