Ray Rice was regarded as one of the NFL's premier running backs until last season's debacle. Sprinkle in his horrendous offseason and you have the makings of someone in need of a solid year to turn things around for a multitude of reasons.
But don't count CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco among those that think he'll do it. Prisco wrote a column listing each team's underrated and overrated players. Rice, who ran for 660 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games in 2013, was named his overrated Ravens player.
Here's why:
"Is he really a star runner anymore? I know he can still be an effective player, especially in the passing game, but I want to see more. So do the Ravens."
Conversely, Prisco's most underrated player is cornerback Jimmy Smith. Prisco seems high on his development and thinks he could be in for a big year.
"[Smith] might be on the verge of a special season, one that could get him to the Pro Bowl. Smith has all the tools to be an effective shutdown corner."
Obviously, these kind of lists are subjective. Some may agree, others may disagree wholeheartedly. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
