The Baltimore Ravens sign former Chargers wide receiver Mike Willie. No jokes please...
This Willie is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. The Ravens signed him after a successful mini-camp tryout, though his name wasn't brought up in press conferences or otherwise for making plays during mini-camp, so he might be more of a warm body.
Willie was with the Chargers for the past two seasons including 2012 when he spent the season on their practice squad. He was removes from injured reserve in August with an injury settlement. In his two seasons at Arizona State, Willie had 72 receptions for 897 yards and nine touchdowns.
The 24 year old wide receiver will be competing against the team of LaQuan Williams, Deonte Thompson, Michael Campanaro, Jacoby Jones and Jeremy Butler for likely the last two or three remaining receiver spots on the team. It will be an uphill battle for the former Charger and Arizona State player given that the Ravens recently resigned Jacoby Jones and drafted Michael Campanaro back in April. Unless he really shines, Willie will be one of at least three players vying for the last receiver slot or is more likely going to be a practice squad addition.
