2014 Ravens Mini-Camp: Tuesday update

The Ravens are seeing five new cornerbacks on the field and have a full attendance for the day.

We reported that the Ravens brought in four new cornerbacks yesterday but it looks like the Ravens quietly added a fifth corner to the mix. All five veterans, Drayton Florence, Aaron Ross, Dominique Franks, Marquice Cole and Kevin Thomas are out on the field doing their thing. Thomas is the newcomer to the squad, and is a former Indianapolis Colts third-round draft choice.

The new additions are trying out for the team during the mini-camps. The Ravens will likely select one or two to stick around in order to add both depth and competition to current Ravens corners Asa Jackson and Chykie Brown.

The Ravens also have full attendance on the day with veterans Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata and Chris Canty all showing up at the facility. This marks the first time that all three veterans will see the practice field for the Ravens in 2014 as all three missed voluntary workouts over the last three weeks. While Ngata and Suggs likely don't need the additional reps, veteran Chris Canty's job is not quite as certain. As we reported earlier, Canty could very well see his job go to a younger player which would find him on the outside looking in due to his high salary.

Terrence Cody (hip surgery), Kamar Aiken (strained lower leg) and Jah Reid (strained calf) are not practicing today. All three players would be better served to practicing at this point since all three are roster bubble players. Cody was resigned this offseason after a disappointing career with the Ravens as a second-round draft pick in 2010. Jah Reid has had some off-the-field issues this offseason and was already going to be fighting for his roster spot since the Ravens have multiple people ahead of him at right tackle, the only open job on the offensive line. Aiken is a career practice squad player at wide receiver, having gone undrafted in 2011 but being signed by the Buffalo Bills that offseason. With Adrian Hamilton and Aaron Mellette getting cut earlier today, all three players will likely fight through their injuries tomorrow in order to not face the same fate.

Mini-camps run through Thursday the 19th, after which the players will have four weeks off before training camp starts on July 23rd. The Ravens will be holding a press conference featuring Haloti Ngata, Elvis Dumervil and new center Jeremy Zuttah at 5:30 today after practice is over. Check back to see what was said.
