Monday Ravens links: Late-round running backs, draft strategy

The running back position just doesn't carry the value it once did.

Once upon a time it was a given for multiple running backs to go in the first round. Now, this year looks to be the second in a row where a back won't go until the second round. With the game moving toward a pass-first approach, there's not as much emphasis on the position.

That doesn't mean the backs coming out in the draft aren't as good as previous years. It just means the value has lowered to where solid backs are getting pushed back to later rounds. Purple Reign Show's Phil Gentile lists some of these backs that could be steals in later rounds.

We all know that Ozzie Newsome's approach to constructing the Ravens is to build through the draft.

Getting some more insight on the process, CSNBaltimore.com's Clifton Brown spoke with NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, who was once a scout for the Ravens. He said that in each draft the goal was to come away with three starters.
