Ravens at Texas A&M Pro Day to scout Mike Evans

The Ravens look to have Mike Evans on their radar as they watch the Texas A&M Pro Day

Bob Levey

The 6-foot-5, 231 lb wide receiver looked sharp, sure handed and athletic at the Texas A&M Pro Day catching passes from Heisman Trophy winner Johnny "Football" Manziel. Oddly enough, former President George H.W. Bush was on hand to watch with his wife Barbara Bush along with the Ravens and 29 other NFL teams.

Manziel hit on 64 of 66 passes with one caught out of bounds by Evans and another dropped after hitting his receiver's hands. Evans caught a long post pattern towards the end of the workout that was televised live on ESPN and NFL Network, looking every bit like a top first round pick. Evans caught 69 passes for 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, showing his size and physicality in wrestling the ball and turning up-field for extra yardage.

Mike Evans is widely graded as the second best wide receiver in the draft behind Clemson's Sammy Watkins. Few drafts have Evans falling to the Ravens at the 17th spot, but the Ravens have to be excited with the promise of the young receiver after a great Pro Day outing to match his unexpectedly fast NFL scouting combine. Evans ran and official 4.53 second 40 yard dash and had a 37 inch vertical leap. The Ravens met with Evans at the NFL scouting combine back in February initially confirming their interest.

Evans said at the combine:

I think I'm one of the best players in the draft. There's a lot of great receivers in this draft, but I feel like I'm the best one.

The first round of the NFL draft takes place on May 8th. Look for Evans to be a top first round pick.
