Elvis Dumervil's week just got better.
Following his 3.5-sack performance in Baltimore's 28-13 win over Miami, Dumervil was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. By notching 3.5 sacks, Dumervil's season total is now at 16, which bested former Ravens linebacker Peter Boulware's season-best of 15. Dumervil still has three games remaining to improve on his team record.
It's been a season to remember for Dumervil, who has seemingly put the defense on his shoulders in recent weeks. With a secondary decimated to injuries, Dumervil has simply gotten after opposing quarterbacks to the best of his ability. He's committed some offsides penalties in the process, but the good has far outweighed the bad in this department.
Dumervil is one sack away from matching his personal best of 17 in one season, which he did during the 2009 season with Denver. He's also gunning for the NFL 2014 sack title with Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston, who also has 16 sacks.
Dumervil has been a valuable asset to the Ravens this season. The fact he's playing his best football at the right time of the year will only help the Ravens' chances to get into the playoffs.
