Signed Melvin off of Miami's practice squad.

Another cornerback has been added to try and add a spark to that position group.

The Ravens signed cornerback Rashaan Melvin to the 53-man roster after placing Jimmy Smith (foot) on the season-ending injured reserve list. Smith had foot surgery, effectively ending his season.

Melvin was signed from Miami's practice squad. While Melvin won't be expected to contribute in the corner rotation right away, the Ravens have had success in the past going this route. When the Ravens acquired Cary Williams, now a starter with the Eagles, he was on Tennessee's practice squad. Melvin could wind up being a developmental kind of player with some potential.

Melvin has a similar build to Williams, too, at 6-2, 193 pounds.

Melvin played college football at Northern Illinois and went undrafted in 2013. After spending the 2013 season on injured reserve, Melvin made the Buccaneers 53-man roster following the preseason. However, Tampa Bay cut him after two weeks with Miami scooping him up to the practice squad.

He's not likely to play against Tennessee but he could be someone to watch down the road.
