John Simon leaves Ravens practice squad for the Texans 53-man roster

The Ravens lose one of their 2013 draft picks to Houston.

Outside linebacker John Simon is a Raven no more.

On Tuesday, The Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson reported that Simon will sign with the Houston Texans, as they plan to place him on their 53-man roster. Simon, a fourth-round pick in 2013, failed to make the Ravens' 53-man roster after the preseason and was placed on the practice squad to start the season.

Simon is now slated to make the NFL league minimum as a member of Houston's defense.

Depth is somewhat of a concern for the Ravens at the position, even with Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil able to play. Suggs isn't playing at 100 percent due to his thigh injury and Pernell McPhee will likely be asked to play more on the defensive line with that unit dealing with some injuries.

However, if the Ravens were believers in Simon at this level, he would have been on the 53-man roster. So while it may seem like some bad news for the Ravens, it clearly didn't matter all that much because the organization didn't feel the need to protect him with an active roster spot.
