Jimmy Smith to miss the next few weeks with foot sprain

The Ravens will be short-handed at cornerback in the near future.

Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith will not suit up when the team travels to Pittsburgh next week.

Early against the Bengals, Smith injured his foot and was carted off of the field. He didn't return and it had the makings of an injury that could take some time to heal from. The good news is that Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced at his press conference that Smith did not sustain a Lisfranc injury; it is just a foot sprain. The bad news is that he's likely to miss multiple games as a result.

Following the Steelers game, the Ravens will get the Titans at home. Then comes the bye week. You'd have to think the hope is that Smith will be back for the Week 12 game against the Saints. They'll definitely need to be close to full strength in the secondary against a Drew Brees-led Saints offense.

Not having Smith for the Steelers game does appear scary after what Ben Roethlisberger did against the Colts on Sunday. But keep in mind, the Ravens were without Lardarius Webb against the Steelers the first time the two teams played and the Ravens went on to win 26-6. Baltimore's success on defense has come when pressuring the quarterback, and this week's game will be no different.
