Earlier this week, Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said tight end Owen Daniels was fine. The next day, Daniels (knee) was ruled out of Sunday's game for the AFC North lead against the Cincinnatti Bengals.
Daniels underwent arthoscopic knee surgery, which means rookie tight end Crockett Gillmore will get his first career start. In a corresponding move, the Ravens have promoted Phillip Supernaw from the practice squad and released the recently signed former Packers tight end Ryan Taylor.
Supernaw spent time with Kubiak in Houston last season and is familar with his offense. He was with the Ravens during the preseason, but didn't catch a pass during any of the games he played in. Given the dependency on the tight end in the passing game, Supernaw should see a few passes thrown his way on Sunday. Gillmore is expected to receive more snaps, but he's primiarily a blocking tight end.
