Bill Belichick was vocal earlier this year when he said the extra point play should be removed from football.
And then NFL commissioner Roger Goodell chimed in and said the league would consider the play in the game's future. One idea he floated on that was suggested to him was to let teams automatically take the point or go for a two-point conversion.
However, if the team trying for two doesn't get it, that team does not pick up the automatic extra point.
Well, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker has some issues with that. The Pro Bowler told reporters in Hawaii that he hopes the extra point play stays in the NFL game.
"For what it's worth, I like the extra point," Tucker said, via NFL.com. "I like doing my job and I think it's one of those things in the game that sometimes is taken for granted."
Tucker went on to cite that while the play has a high success rate, so does taking a knee at the end of games. But all it takes is one botched snap or fumble to completely change a game.
"You look at these quarterbacks throwing for four and five thousand yards a season and they are getting increasingly efficient, but we aren't going to tell the receivers to stop wearing gloves," Tucker said. "In my opinion it is the same principle. That is my two cents."
