According to Pro Football Talk, Ravens wide receiver and return specialist Jacoby Jones will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Jones suffered the injury after fellow Ravens player Brynden Trawick accidentally ran into Jones while he was trying to field a punt.
Let's start with the good news. First, it could have been worse. The Ravens play the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins in the next four weeks. This is probably one of the weakest four game stretches during the Ravens schedule, so the injury, if it had to happen, couldn't have come at a better time. Second, Marlon Brown, who filled in for Jones as the second wide receiver, looked pretty good against the Denver Broncos. So it's not like the loss of Jones is crippling.
Still, this loss is definitely going to take its toll on the Ravens. Jones is a terrific return man and explosive wide receiver, so even on a team stacked with wide receivers, this loss was going to be felt. But to make matters worse, wide receiver was one of the least talented positions on the team even before the injury. The loss of Jones hurts not only because he is a talented player, but because everyone after him is just that much worse. Unfortunately for the Ravens, this injury looks like it is only going to make an already anemic offense worse.
