What Would Losing Aaron Hernandez Mean?

The Patriots look to be in trouble with their tight ends, but will this effect the outcome of their season?

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

At this point, its not a question of if, but when. ABC News is reporting that Aaron Hernandez is expected to be arrest for obstruction of justice. I would imagine that Roger Goodell is not going to look to kindly on that. I understand there are much more important topics in regards to this story, but how might this effect the Patriots depth chart. With Rob Gronkowski already being out and Aaron Hernandez likely to be out for the beginning of the year, the Patriots could be in trouble.

I would argue that tight end is the Patriots deepest position. They still have Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard and Michael Hoomanawanui on the roster and Tom Brady has proven that he doesn't need big names to catch the ball (see 2007 playoffs). The offense will certainly be hurt by this, but that is not the real question. The real question is can anyone else in the division mount a charge. I can't believe the Jets or Bills are going to be in contention for the playoffs. The Pats biggest worry would have to be the Dolphins.

I don't think the tight end situation will directly effect the Ravens because we don't play them until week 16, but the Patriots could be in contention for a spot in the playoffs that the Ravens want if they don't have their usual 12-14 win season.

Do you think the Patriots will still be okay?
