Ex-Raven safety Bernard Pollard has never been one to hold back his feelings. When the Ravens chose to part ways with the hard hitting Pollard he let it be known that he was at odds with certain members of the Ravens organization here in Baltimore. He even skipped the teams trip to the White House and Super Bowl ring ceremony because "there were certain people he didn't want to be in the same room with".
Whenever Pollard opens his mouth everyone with a microphone or camera in the vicinity is usually in for a good news day. Apparently he is keeping the tradition alive with his new team in Tennessee. Bernard recently posted a note on his locker in the Titans team facility stating: "Goal - Super Bowl, Mission Kill!!!". When asked about his motivation for the sign here is what he had to say.
"Our goal is the Super Bowl and our mission is to kill," Pollard told the Tennessean. "And if someone doesn’t like it, then who cares? I really couldn’t care less. It is not our responsibility to make anyone else happy, to please you, to care about you."
This is exactly why Pollard is no longer a Raven. Although his physical presence will be missed in the secondary he is simply not worth the headache. The Ravens are molding this team to the personality of their head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh is not the type to put up "bulletin board material" for other teams to focus on when they play his team.
It is no wonder why the two would but heads from time to time when placed on the same team as their philosophies on football and life could not be more different. By the way, Pollard had a few more choice words to say on the matter at hand.
"I don’t care what they have to say," Pollard said. "If they feel like we’re going to carry guns and knives and try and stab people and try and kill them, shame on you. You are an idiot,’’ he said. "For us, when we say kill, we want to go out there and knock the (heck) out of people, we want to hit you. And for me, we’re going to help you up because I’m going to knock you back down. I have been at plenty of pee-wee football games where I have seen my son, my daughter, and you hear parents, you hear women, white, black, Hispanic, Chinese, Japanese, telling their sons, ‘Kill them! Telling their daughters, Kill them!’
"Do I believe they mean kill them? Literally kill them? No. So if you have never played this game before and you want to take that and run with it, go ahead. Shame on you. You’re a fool. But for us, that is just the mentality you have to have and that’s not going to change."
When you have to explain yourself every time you open your mouth you just aren't doing it right. Although he will always be appreciated for being part of a Super Bowl winning team here in Baltimore, the Ravens are much better off without Bernard Pollard drawing the wrong kind of attention to the team.
