Welcome Aboard, Steve Spagnuolo!

The Baltimore Ravens have hired Steve Spagnuolo as a defensive assistant for the upcoming 2013 NFL Season.

Earlier today, the Baltimore Ravens added a familiar name to an already top-tier coaching staff: former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo. "Spags" was let go by the New Orleans Saints after the Saints posted a dismal year defensively; ranking in the bottom-five in just about every single defensive category last season. Due to the condition of the Saints defense at the end of last year Steve was not exactly a highly-touted coach this offseason.

Despite his obvious fallbacks as an overall defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo has been known to tremendously improve his defensive linemen, which will likely be what he will be doing with the Baltimore Ravens. This signing also makes sense due to the fact that both Steve Spagnuolo and John Harbaugh worked together during their days with the Philadelphia Eagles, which hopefully means that the pair will have an instant chemistry.

Overall, I think this is a good signing and I think that no matter how bad a former head coach/coordinator's track record may be, it is always a good move when you can add one to the coaching staff in a minor role. I think that Spagnuolo's experience will help him demand respect from the young Ravens' defense which will hopefully do wonders for their development process.

Welcome aboard, Steve!
