Castillo Key In Center Battle

Jaun Castillo may hold the answers to becoming the Ravens next center.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

When you watch the Baltimore Ravens play football you will notice that they like to run the ball up the middle, A LOT. These same Ravens are looking for a new center to replace the retired Pro Bowler Matt Birk.

To replace Birk the team is looking at second year player Gino Gradkowski and fourth year veteran A.Q. Shipley. What Shipley and Gadkowski need to realize is that they have a wealth of offensive knowledge right in front of them in run game coordinator Juan Castillo, who used to be the offensive line coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

If either of these two players really wants to win this battle then Castillo should become their new best friend. The Ravens new center will have to use the Ravens zone blocking scheme on passing downs and learn to be a road grader for fullback Vonta Leach and Ray Rice on running downs. No one will be able to teach them that better than Castillo.
