This offseason the Ravens have been very aggressive in terms of getting rid of their players. The front office has decided the team needed to get younger and that is exactly what they did. Some went via free agency, but others – the Ravens flat out cut. Is this over?
Many think that Vonta Leach could be the next on the chopping block. There is no question that he is one of the best fullbacks in the game, but can the Ravens afford to keep a high priced player at this position? I think he is a great asset to the team and provides a unique advantage that many other teams don’t have, but he has a high cap number for his position.
The next person that has been talked about is Jacoby Jones. With the departure of Anquan Boldin, is Jacoby going to be able and step up to the second receiver spot? He is certainly an outstanding return man, but he has a history of drops and never stepped up when given the opportunity in Houston. Can the Ravens afford to keep him?
At this point, the team has enough money to sign all their draft picks and one more fairly high ticket free agent. I think in the end, the Ravens will keep these two guys, but it is certainly an interesting discussion. However, the team has some pressing needs and might need the cap space.
