Aaron Mellette, WR (Elon): 6'3", 217 pounds
The Ravens finally got a wide receiver, as their fans were wondering when they would draft one. Mellette is a long and solid wideout, with decent speed (4.45 40-yard dash) as well. He could be the replacement for Anquan Boldin as he matures, as he is not afraid to go over the middle and is a physical receiver. As noted at CBSSports.com, with at least 86 catches in each of the last three years, Aaron, has great hands but the question will be how he can make the transition from a small school program and schedule to the NFL.
Check out NFL.com's 'Bottom Line' analysis:
BOTTOM LINE
Mellette was lucky to play in a passing oriented offense, with the majority of his time under current Ball State head coach Pete Lembo. Prior to Mellete, Elon put forth a record breaking receiver in Terrell Hudgins, but Mellette's pro potential is much better. He won't win with long speed or athleticism, but Mellette has displayed the ability to make catches in traffic and win with technical route running. Expect a fourth- or fifth-round selection.
