Ravens: Free Agency Starts Tuesday

The list of free agent on the Ravens is longer than you think.

USA TODAY Sports

Starting this Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens and the other 31 NFL teams can begin negotiating with the agents of the players that were on their teams last year. Beginning Tuesday, free agency starts all around the league and then let the feeding frenzy begin.

Teams can get the first shot at re-signing their own players in those 87 hours between Saturday and Tuesday, then it's open market for all. Interestingly, the Ravens, much less any team, cannot negotiate with safety Ed Reed, as he represents himself without an agent and therefore cannot be directly contacted.

The full list of restricted and unrestricted free agents on the Ravens can be found on spotrac.com, and includes a whopping 38 players, including Reed. This number also includes guys that the Ravens have "exclusive rights" to, many of whom only the most die-hard fans have heard of or know anything about them.

The big name free agents, such as Reed, Paul Kruger, Dannell Ellerbe are well known and in the news, while many of the others include players who barely sniffed the field last year. Guys like RB Bobby Rainey, Omar Brown and Adrian Hamilton may figure in the Ravens future plans but they will have to finalize deals in order to put those plans in action, although the obvious priorities are the aforementioned major contributors.
