Ravens Release Bernard Pollard

According to Twitter posts by the Ravens and Pollard himself, it looks like the veteran player purge continues for the Super Bowl Champs.

The Baltimore Ravens continue to lose key veteran players today. Reports have surfaced that the team has cut strong safety Bernard Pollard. This would be the sixth starter either left or expected to leave on the defensive side of the ball from last year's Super Bowl XLVII Champions.

The retirement of Ray Lewis, the free agent signings of Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe, along with the release ofPollard and the probable or possible losses of CB Cary Williams and FS Ed Reed virtually decimate the heart of the Ravens defense.

Only Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata remain from a unit that filled Pro Bowl rosters over the past few years. However, there are a lot of young players with potential star power and some other solid players on this unit, so don't be so quick to write the team's 2013 obituary after less than 48 hours of free agency.

While the Ravens official website has not posted anything, the first site to post the news is ProFootballTalk.com, although other places have mentioned it on Twitter as well as the NFL Network.
