Do you have a knack for writing, presenting an argument or writing in detail about current events, including breaking news, hot topics and original content?
Baltimore Beatdown is looking for candidates to write original content, covering breaking news and updating news stories using the website's technology. When time permits, the writer will also handle some basic planned news-based posts that can be written and scheduled in advance or published immediately (e.g. TV schedules, basic game previews and injury updates).
Duties: During the time slot your are responsible for, candidates will be covering breaking news, updating existing stories, writing posts based on pre-planned content and scouring the internet for stories to write in support of the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC North, the top NFL stories and Baltimore Beatdown. Candidates will be coordinating with editors and supporting Baltimore Beatdown through the publishing of news.
Background and qualifications: This is an entry-level position in sports media. Candidates with experience producing sports news content are preferred in either an intern, academic or professional capacity. A journalism degree (or degree in-progress) is preferred but not required. Strong knowledge of all sports and a demonstrated ability to write in an online environment are musts.

- Has a nose for news, both in knowing what is important and identifying where to find it.
- Is able to write in line with our best practices for ideal search engine optimization (SEO).
- Is able to write and publish quickly while remaining accurate.
- Is a self-starter who can work with minimal direction.
- Possesses solid communication skills.
- Is comfortable working in a virtual environment.
Hours: Writers will work in specific time slots, from daily to weekends. Details and availability will be taken into consideration with hiring decision. Schedules will change from time to time based on the sports calendar.
Compensation: Several of our writers have gone on to receive compensation to work at Baltimore Beatdown over the years, but available positions are currently unpaid. Depending on your work, dedication and talent, there are always opportunities for talented writers with high enthusiasm and overall creativeness.
