Justin Tucker was riding on top of the world after kicking six field goals in a win over Detroit.
A week later, down 20-0 early in the fourth quarter, Tucker lined up to attempt his first kick of the game, a 37-yard attempt. Automatic right?
Not quite.
Tucker's kick missed just outside to the left. The Ravens didn't catch any breaks and that was one of them. Tucker would eventually miss one, that was a given. But when you hit 33 field goals in a row, it's easy to take them for granted.
In a sense, it's better for Tucker to miss this one in a game the Ravens weren't going to win (reminder, they lost 41-7). If he missed the 61-yarder against Detroit, then the Ravens don't have a chance to make the playoffs.
It's unfortunate for Tucker, though, because his quest for a team record will have to start over. Matt Stover has the franchise record with 36 made field goals in a row.
The Ravens still have a chance to reach the playoffs. As long as they defeat Cincinnati and either San Diego or Miami loses, they're in.
And maybe Tucker will have a chance to make that happen next week.
