Former Ravens' Safety Ed Reed is coming back to Baltimore for the second time this season. Last time, he was a member of the Houston Texans, now he's with the New York Jets.
In his visit to Baltimore in Week 3, he had three tackles. That's it. No interceptions, sacks, forced fumbles, or anything of the sort. Of course, for a safety with 61 interceptions and seven defensive touchdowns, that can be a bit frustrating.
The future Hall-of-Famer is eager for he or one of his New York teammates to get an interception or forced fumble against the Ravens this Sunday. Ed Reed actually made t-shirts stating that $20,000 would be rewarded to any player that is able to pick off quarterback Joe Flacco.
The shirt reads:
WANTED -- In the Air or on the Ground -- $20,000
It is written in old Western-style format and has a picture of a football on it.
Here is Reed wearing the shirt:
"No, I'm not offering 20 grand for a turnover," Jets' cornerback Antonio Cromartie. "I like how you tried to work that. It's a shirt, man. I like how you did that. It's funny how you guys twist our words."
Unfortunately, the $20,000 reward was just a joke and motivational tool, not an actual reward.
Even though the reward isn't real, Ed Reed still wants to get his hands on the football this Sunday.
"I know I'm still effective, and I know quarterbacks across the league haven't been throwing it my way," Reed said. "I hope it changes this week, but it probably won't. We'll see."
Ed Reed hasn't gotten an interception since leaving the Ravens in the offseason. The last time was in Super Bowl XLVII on February 3rd, but before that it was against Pittsburgh in Week 13 of last season.
Is it possible that Reed could get the first turnover against his former team, but how likely is it?
With Reed only being a part of the Jets for a little over a week, it may be unlikely that the "ballhawk" gets his hands on a Joe Flacco pass on Sunday. Although, Flacco has already thrown 13 interceptions this season, including five against the Buffalo Bills, one of the other New York teams.
Like always, Flacco will need to keep his eyes on Reed at all times. If he doesn't, the Super Bowl M.V.P. may just become another quarterback added to Reed's "I intercepted..." list.
