Ravens have until 4 p.m. to activate Dennis Pitta if he's going to play

If Pitta is going to make a surprise appearance Sunday, the Ravens will have to activate him from IR-designated to return before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh did not rule Dennis Pitta out for Sunday's game against the Jets.

However, it's unlikely Pitta plays after spending only three days of practice with the team after coming off a dislocated and fractured hip suffered in the preseason. But Harbaugh is going to at least make the Jets think about the possibility of Pitta returning this week.

In case Harbaugh and the Ravens have something up their sleeves that none of us know about, then Pitta would have to be activated by 4 p.m. on Saturday for him to be available for Sunday's game. He's still on the injured reserve-designated to return list, due to the three-week grace period players are allowed to practice under.

At this time, he is not counting toward the 53-man roster.

This is what happened last year with Terrell Suggs, when the Ravens announced he was no longer on the physically unable to perform list the Saturday before the Houston game. If the Ravens make a move with Pitta, he'll likely play.

Don't count on the move happening. But be on the look out, just in case.
