The Ravens announced they have signed running back Bernard Scott to the 53-man roster on Monday.

This move likely coincides with backup Bernard Pierce's nagging hamstring injury. Scott also reportedly impressed during a workout with the organization a couple of weeks ago.

Scott offers a solid option as a change-of-pace running back. He's quick and agile but can also run with some power. A former member of the Cincinnati Bengals, Scott totaled 1,035 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons.

Scott's 2012 season ended abruptly with a knee injury that placed him on injured reserve.

Scott's addition won't fix the running back problems by any means. But he should serve as a capable backup for as long as Pierce needs to rest, if Pierce even needs to thanks to the bye week. Once Pierce is healthy, though, the three could wind up splitting time so that all of the backs can be fresh in the fourth quarter.

An added bonus is that the Ravens are playing the Bengals in two weeks. I'm sure the Ravens coaches will sit Scott down and ask for any potential information that they could use to their benefit.
