According to ProFootballTalk, Ravens' outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil has been fined $7,875 for a facemask penalty on Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
The drive in which the penalty was committed, included three penalties on Dumervil. He was flagged for jumping offsides, a late hit on Ben Roethlisberger, and the facemask on a sack on Roethlisberger.
The penalties were costly for the Ravens, as Shaun Suisham hit a field goal on that drive, which was the difference in the 19-16 win for the Steelers.
John Harbaugh spoke about the Dumervil facemask after the game.
"You just can't grab the facemask, but Ben [Roethlisberger] ducks all the time," the head coach said. "What do you say? This is the biggest, strongest quarterback in the NFL. We have to wrap him up strong and bring him down, but you feel yourself around the face area, he drops down, you have to get your fingers out of there somehow. Maybe there's a way to coach that other than talking about it, but you don't want to get the facemask."
Elvis Dumervil believes that he needs to do better.
"I got to do a better job of being aware of the strike zone," Dumervil said. "I think I played a little too aggressive. I have to do a better job and not cost the team."
The Ravens will have a bye in Week Eight, a much needed thing for a team that is currently 3-4. Elvis Dumervil and the rest of the team will have to work hard, especially in the coming weeks. They will have the Cleveland Browns in Week Nine and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week Ten, two much-needed wins.
