Ravens waiting to see if left tackle Eugene Monroe will be ready to start against Dolphins

With left tackle Eugene Monroe all but officially on the Ravens' roster, the next question is easy: Will he start this Sunday in Miami?

On one hand, you don't make a trade for Monroe if you're not going to play him. On the other hand, if he's not up to speed with the Ravens' offense, then you can't throw him out there and expect success.

In two quick days, the Ravens will find out if either Monroe or Bryant McKinnie will start this week.

"We’ll see as we go," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "Obviously, we’re bringing Eugene [Monroe] in to play. How soon that can happen remains to be seen. The main thing is [Monroe] makes us better. It makes us better almost immediately in terms of adding a football player of that quality to our team. And we’ll just figure it out, and we’ll fit it together the way we can and use these guys all the best ways we can."

The Ravens sent fourth- and fifth-round picks to the Jaguars for Monroe, which isn't too big of a deal since the organization is expecting compensatory picks in those rounds this year.

Harbaugh said the Ravens and Monroe are working out some final details about his contract before he's officially part of the team, which is why he wasn't present for practice Wednesday. That's the only thing standing in the way before a change on the field happens for the Ravens.

"He's going to bring us a high-quality football player, a guy that we've had great respect for throughout his career so far in the NFL," Harbaugh said. "Certainly coming out from UVA, he was very highly-rated on our board. So, we're all very excited about it. I commend both sides for getting it done. It's a plus for both sides. If you look at the terms of the trade, it's really a good trade for both teams. We're looking forward to getting him in here and seeing how it goes."
