Aaron Rodgers was visibly upset when Matt Elam's helmet hit Randall Cobb's knee.
The play, which happened during the first half of Green Bay's 19-17 win over Baltimore, saw Elam react to a quick throw down to seam to Cobb.
Elam, instructed not to target defenseless receivers high, reacted to the play and tackled the receiver low. It should be noted that it was a legal play. However, Rodgers took exception to it and insinuated that Elam should take a different approach to tackling.
"I just felt like, from my vantage point, [Elam] had plenty of time to not take out a guy’s legs in that situation," Rodgers told ESPN Wisconsin. "I think he could have hit in the proper hitting zone, and that’s what I told him."
The problem is that if defenders aren't allowed to hit receivers high anymore then you're going to have these kind of plays and potential injuries.
Fortunately for the Packers, Cobb, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, is only expected to miss two weeks. Packers coach Mike McCarthy told local reporters Cobb will miss multiple weeks. Other reports have varying degrees of time that Cobb is expected to miss.
Coach John Harbaugh was asked about Rodgers' comments Monday.
"I think Matt [Elam] made a tackle," Harbaugh told reporters. "He was scrambling to catch up with that route as best he could to make the tackle. To say that it could have been more ‘artistically palatable' is pretty hard for me to understand. That's a fast route; they ran a very good route there. Aaron [Rodgers] made a good quick throw in there, and Matt did the best he could to try and stop that play."
To sum it all up:
"I have no idea what he's talking about," Harbaugh said.
