Super Bowl 2013 odds: 49ers hanging on as favorites over Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens remain underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

The line for the San Francisco 49ers vs. Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl hasn't moved much since opening. The NFC Champion 49ers opened as 5-point favorites, and according to OddsShark.com, they can be found between 3.5- and 4-point favorites on some books around the Internet.

Bovada has the 49ers as 4-pont favorites, while sites like 5Dimes and Just Bet are sticking with the 3.5-point spread. None of the sites listed have the 49ers as 5-point favorites any longer.

That doesn't mean anything has changed with the way that odds makers view the matchup. Early on, it seems a huge amount of money came in on the Ravens as underdogs, so the line has moved slightly.

The matchup itself remains as exciting as ever. Colin Kaepernick and the revitalized San Francisco offense will look to put out the burning flame that is Ray Lewis' passion to lead his defense to another Super Bowl before calling it a career. Both teams took out strong opponents to get here and on top of that, it's a fresh change for betters and the fans, given the teams involved.

The over/under, which opened at 49 points, hasn't moved much, with most sites not going below 47. Obviously, this one isn't expected to be primarily a defensive struggle.

As far as other betting is concerned, the Super Bowl is unique in the sheer number of seemingly useless things you can bet on. Not only can you bet on what color Gatorade gets dumped on the winning coach, but you can bet on intangible factors such as "Will the team that wins the coin toss win the game?"

Maybe betting on things like that is living life on the edge for sports betters. Or maybe it's just a tax on the naive. Super Bowl!
