Interesting to see that in the past 13 seasons of the show, a sports-related contestant has won the title six times. Twice NFL players have won top honors, former Dallas Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith (season 3) and former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward (season 12).
Three NFL stars have come in second place, WR Jerry Rice (season 2), DE Jason Taylor (season 6) and DT Warren Sapp (season 7). Other than the NFL stars, the four other sports-related winner of DWTS includes Olympic Short-Track Speed Skater Apolo Anton Ohno (season 4), IndyCar Racing Champion Helio Castroneves (season 5), Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6), and Olympic Gymnast Shannon Johnson (season 8).
