Clarifying the Ravens' Linebacker Coach Hiring

The Baltimore Ravens have distributed an official press release detailing the specifics of the hiring of what was announced as linebackers coach Don Martindale the other day. Martindale was a former defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos and linebackers coach with the Oakland Raiders before it was reported that he was hired to replace Dean Pees, who was promoted to the Ravens defensive coordinator when Chuck Pagano left to become the Indianapolis Colts head coach.

RAVENS COACHING UPDATES

To further expand on this morning’s announcement regarding the Baltimore Ravens’ coaching staff, Don Martindale will focus his attention on coaching the team’s inside linebackers, while linebackers coach Ted Monachino will oversee the entire linebacker unit and also continue his specialized work with the outside linebackers.

Joining the team in 2010, Monachino, 45, has served as the Ravens’ outside linebackers coach the past two seasons. A seven-year NFL-coaching veteran, he helped guide OLB Terrell Suggs to a second-consecutive Pro Bowl appearance in 2011. The first-team All-Pro Suggs, a recipient of various Defensive Player of the Year honors, led the AFC with a career-high 14 sacks and an NFL-best seven forced fumbles.
