If anyone had said that by the time tonight's Monday Night football match-up between the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles came up on the schedule, we'd be looking at two of the top teams in the NFC with expectation of them meeting again in the playoffs. Now, with a combined record of 5-9, both teams see their playoff hopes slipping away and desperately need a win tonight.
The Eagles started the season 2-0 but have lost four of their last five, including the last three in a row. The Saints didn't fare anywhere close to that well, opening the season with four straight losses before winning two of their last three. Even with a win tonight, the Saints would still trail the Atlanta Falcons by five games and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a game in the NFC South. The Eagles are only in a slightly better position, with three less wins than the NFC East division-leading New York Giants before tonight's game.
Tonight's meeting in New Orleans could easily determine which of the two, if not both already, will have to accept the fact that they will not be part of the post season this year. Watch the game and post your thoughts on this or perhaps even the Baltimore Ravens win over the Cleveland Browns in this MNF game-time 'Open Thread.'
