Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is one of the happier players in camp right about now, as the recent free agent signing of bruising fullback Vonta Leach, had him singing, "I'm so excited..." at today's press conference after practice at Training Camp. Rice is fully aware how Leach "lays the wood on people," and expects to reap the biggest benefit of his addition.
Blasting big holes open for his running back has been Vonta's strength, as evidenced by what he did for the Houston Texans in helping RB Arian Foster lead the NFL in rushing in 2010. It also earned Leach a Pro Bowl berth and both Rice and the Ravens are hoping history repeats itself, this time in Baltimore.
Anquan Boldin knows his role, as well as responsibility and pressure, will increase if WR Derrick Mason is not re-signed. He responded to questions about the rookie wide receivers and laughed it off, saying he's been teaching his teammates since he was a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals.
When I asked him if he sees a difference in the leadership abilities of his QB, this is what "Q" had to say:
"He just seems a lot more comfortable with what they have him doing. He’s really taking charge. But he’s our captain, he’s our guy, so how he goes, we go."
