Most every fan of the Baltimore Ravens were thrilled when the team selected WR Torrey Smith with their second round pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith figures to be an integral part of the passing attack and could even start by the time the regular season comes around. However, most people are not aware that the Ravens brought in Smith receiving partner from his University of Maryland playing days, WR LaQuan Williams.

Williams, sporting the #15 and the same flowing dreadlocks as Smith, was brought in as an undrafted free agent and has been seen standing close to his former Terp teammate on the sidelines whenever the two take a break from the heat and humidity of camp so far. LaQuan's statistics at the college level were relatively bland, he does have the size and speed to possibly contribute on Special Teams and even earn some playing time if he makes a great impression on the coaches.

While he is a longshot to make the team, he has looked very solid in the first couple of days in camp, with great hands, catching everything thrown his way, making some nice cuts and giving an all-out effort. Here's what Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said about LaQuan after yesterday's practice:

“Yeah, a lot of things about LaQuan, his career in college, are so much about special teams. He is a standout special teams player, and then he comes out and makes these catches today. That just reinforces what I have always believed: I think guys are football players, and they get an opportunity in different areas, and sometimes they show up. He had a nice day today.”

We're sure all Ravens and Terp fans will be rooting for the "other" Maryland wide receiver!
