While the talk of the day was mostly about the stifling heat and humidity, the Baltimore Ravens had their rookies on display today, as first round selection, CB Jimmy Smith, joined 3rd round pick, RT Jah Reid, for their first full team practices. Second round pick, WR Torrey Smith and 4th round WR Tandon Doss got a full day of practice in yesterday.
The heat played as big a role as any in the practice, with many players cramping up on both sides of the ball. TE Davon Drew was walked off the field with a wet towel draped over his head to the locker room. Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss, Ray Rice among others seemed to be hindered at times from the cramps but no injuries to report of.
Rookie Jimmy Smith looks a bit raw in technique, but there is no denying his size, speed and obvious athletic abilities. Tackle Jah Reid is a huge and imposing presence with his size and red dreadlocks. Tandon Doss proved his hands are as good as advertised, making a few impressive grabs in drills.
QB Joe Flacco continues to look both sharp and in charge of the offense. Head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron confer and watch the offense move the ball, with Flacco looking for WR Anquan Boldin, TE Ed Dickson and RB Ray Rice over and over, with throws to the rookies and free agents as well.
