Hot Rumors Are Just Rumors: Herzlich Picks Giants

Reported last night that former Boston College LB Mark Herzlich was going to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, today he tweeted that he had selected to sign with the New York Giants, according to a story in the National Football Post. Perhaps a ploy by his agent to get teams into a bidding war, Herzlich was all but thought to become a Ravens and while official signings cannot happen until 6pm on Friday, if the player himself tweeted the news, it has to be legitimate.

Herzlich would have made a great decision had he come to Baltimore. Learning under the all-time best, Ray Lewis, and in what is known around the league as a great locker room, he would have become a pro football player in the finest sense. His heart-warming story of going from ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, then missing the entire 2009 season due to a rare form of bone cancer only to re-emerge healthy and play solid football in 2010, is a great story, perhaps even another football movie.

However, Herzlich has also chosen a good, competitive team and in the glare of the New York lights, he may still be able to write his own movie script. While sad to learn he chose another team, as I said in the previous story here on Baltimore Beatdown which rumored his coming to town, everyone should still root for the kid to succeed.
