All of the lead writers for each of SB Nations NFL teams are in the midst of a two-round 2011 NFL Mock Draft.. I was thinking about the typical guys that many people here on Baltimore Beatdown and around the football world have been projecting the Baltimore Ravens to take with the 26th pick of the first round. However, I never expected this guy to be sitting there available when my turn to select came up.
Missouri's Aldon Smith is arguably a top 10, certainly a top-15 talent and the National Football Post actually has him ranked as the second best defensive end in the entire draft behind Robert Quinn but ahead of earlier draft picks such as J.J. Watt, Cameron Jordan, Ryan Kerrigan and Da'Quan Bowers.
Smith is a perfect fit in the Ravens complex defense and would be a great complement to Terrell Suggs in pressuring the QB. He can put his hand in the dirt or drop back as a hybrid linebacker depending on the scheme. In the Ravens defense, Smith would be a Pro Bowler in no time and end the pass rushing woes that the team has had the past few years.
If this were a real draft, Smith would easily be the steal of the first round, lasting until the 26th pick when many other Mock Drafts have him going around number 10-15 overall. See the full story by Brian Galliford over at Mocking The Draft.
