...Chykie Brown, CB, Texas and Pernell McPhee, DE, Mississippi State University."
Chykie (pronounced "shockey") Brown was the third cornerback selected in this draft from the University of Texas. He is built strong (5'11", 190 pounds) and fast (4.5 40-yard dash). Brown started the first nine games in 2010, although his best season was in 2009 when he played in all 14 games, recording 48 tackles and intercepting two passes. He ran a 4.54 40-yard dash and benched pressed the 225 weight bar 22 times.
Pernell McPhee has good size for a defensive end (6'3", 280 pounds). He seems best suited for his run support as his bull-rush style of pass rushing is just not going to be anywhere near as successful at the professional level. McPhee earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors from the league's coaches in 2010, registering 35 tackles and two sacks and was one of four team captains.
Both guys add additional depth to the Baltimore Ravens roster and they will compete for reserve roles as well as spots on Special Teams. The Ravens currently have two more picks remaining in the 2011 NFL Draft, one each in the sixth (180th overall) and seventh (205th overall) rounds.
