If the Pouncey name sounds familiar, it's only because his older brother, Maurkice, is the starting center for the AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Maurkice earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie, but had to miss the game as his team was playing in Super Bowl XLV. Unfortunately, Pouncey also missed the Super Bowl, as a late season ankle injury prevented him from getting on the field.
Considered the better of the two brothers, Maurkicewas the first round draft pick for Pittsburgh in 2010. Mike moved over to center this season from guard and can play either position in the pros. A lot of Mock Drafts have the Steelers putting him at guard next to his brother if he is still on the board when they pick at #31 in April's 2011 NFL Draft.
However, with the Baltimore Ravens center, Matt Birk, entering his 14th NFL season in 2011, the Ravens will need to address this position if not this season, then certainly next. Pouncey is one player that could easily start at guard then move to center when Birk retires.
Pouncey is listed at 6'4", 310 pounds and is ranked as the 2ndbest center coming out in this year's draft behind Penn State's Stefan Wisniewski, according to the National Football Post. However, NFL Draft Scout reviewed him as a guard and lists him as the best guard in this year's draft class. Either way, regardless of what position he is scouted at, he possesses the skill set to contribute and even start immediately at the next level.
