It was recently revealed that former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Orlando Brown died of complications related to diabetes. It appears, according to a story in the Baltimore Sun this past week, that Brown had no even been diagnosed with the disease and therefore was not aware nor being treated for the condition.
With proper medical care, the condition that ultimately cost "Zeus" his life at the way-too-early age of 40, was treatable to the point that under physician guidance, medication and/or diet, he could have controlled and lived with this condition.
Unfortunately, without treatment, the disease (diabetic ketoacidosis) can be fatal, which proved true in Brown's tragic case. According to the story, neither friends, teammates and relatives recall that he ever mentioned the condition, which led investigators to assume he had no idea about this potentially live-threatening issue that quickly claimed his life two weeks ago.
