2014 NFL DRAFT 1st Round Evaluation

So this is a reaction/ evaluation of the picks in real time

1.1 Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina

Obvious pick if they don’t trade out of the first… no shock here… He makes that line very, very scary.

1.2 St. Louis Rams: Greg Robinson OT Auburn

Solidifies the bookends with Long and Robinson. Protects Bradford and allows him to flourish and continue what he was doing last year before injury.

1.3 Jacksonville Jaguars: Blake Bortles QB UCF

Shocker here but Jacksonville gets a pocket passer for the future...I'm sure they were looking at him...down the road

1.4 Cleveland Browns (TRADE to BILLS): Sammy Watkins WR Clemson

Like it a lot… giving EJ some weapons to succeed in the future. Watkins can take over one duty and put Stevie Johnson at his true position at the two.

1.5 Oakland Raiders: Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo

FINALLY! Mack comes off the board… BPA at this point. Will become an instant impact on that D… Maybe even bringing it back to the good defense of the past.

1.6 Atlanta Falcons: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M

Protects Matt Ryan, the most pressured QB last year, he should be able to do much better than last year with protection. A playoff contender now Atlanta can become a much better

1.7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans WR Texas A&M

Two GIANT recievers following the Chicago Bears model, Lovie Smith is jumping up and down at the thought of this tandem.

1.8 Minnesota Vikings (TRADE TO BROWNS): Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma St

WOW… So Johnny how are you doing? Big shock there good #2 CB across from Haden. Replenishing their secondary loss in Free Agency.

1.9 Buffalo Bills(TRADE to BROWNS)(TRADE TO VIKINGS): Anthony Barr OLB UCLA

Takes an underrated defenseman in Barr… Makes a very good linebacker corps for Minnesota.

1.10 Detroit Lions: Eric Ebron TE UNC

Gives Stafford a dangerous weapon to take some pressure off of Megatron, Playoff Contender this year calling it now.

1.11 Tennessee Titans: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan

Hmm… thought he would go to Giants… Gets a mean lineman that can bulldoze edge rushers and defensive ends.

1.12 New York Giants: Odell Beckham Jr. WR LSU

Replaces Hakeem Nicks in their receiving corps making a Cruz-Beckham-Randle trio.

1.13 St. Louis Rams: Aarond Donald DT Pitt

Sooo no safety here? BOLD… I love Donald, Chicago doesn’t get their dream boy. St. Louis goes line on both sides of the ball in the 1st round.

1.14 Chicago Bears: Kyle Fuller CB Virginia

Well…. Best CB IMO comes of the board and to an aging secondary. He will be a very good corner in this league… Hes gonna have to cover some good WRs.

1.15 Pittsburg Steelers: Ryan Shazier OLB Ohio State

No Martin? No safety? Surprising, love Shazier buffing up that defense

1.16 Dallas Cowboys: Zack Martin OL Notre Dame

Sorry boys no Manziel… Zack Martin to solidify the line… Can play ANY position on the line…

1.17 Baltimore Ravens: C.J. Mosley ILB Alabama

… um ok… it alright not an immediate need but thinking future Brown-Mosley combo? Not bad its alright not crazy about it… definitely should have addressed the safety positions with both of them on the board.

1.18 New York Jets: Calvin Pryor S Louisville

Good hard hitting safety. Recovers from their last years pick in Milliner…OH too soon?

1.19 Miami Dolphins: Ja’Waun James OT Tennessee

Thought Moses would be the pick here but apparently they had James higher on their list. Still good that they get that line in shape after the Incognito scandal.

1.20 Arizona Cardinals (TRADE to SAINTS): Brandin Cooks WR Oregon St

Giving Brees some options so a solid Graham-Colston-Cooks-Stills very dangerous watch out NFC South.

1.21 Green Bay Packers: Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix S Alabama

A treat falls to the Packers here… They need to be ecstatic in Green Bay right now. Too much sense not to take

1.22 Philadelphia Eagles (TRADE TO BROWNS): Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M

Finally here it is Johnny Football… falls past Dallas and Jerry town and the Browns couldn’t wait to get a Franchise QB and a little sizzle in that offense… Will be deadly…

1.23 Kansas City Chiefs: Dee Ford DE Auburn

Will fit right in to that defense from last year. If the Chiefs can sustain that defense from last year…watch out.

1.24 Cincinnati Bengals: Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State

Needed a CB with the others declining good pick up.

1.25 San Diego Chargers: Jason Verrett CB TCU

Best Available CB at this point and they neeeeded one desperately

1.26 Cleveland Browns (TRADE TO EAGLES): Marcus Smith DE Louisville

The silence at NYC was enough to make me scratch my head. A lot of better options. The Eagles must like Smith over the likes of Ealy, Attachou, and Critchon.

1.27 New Orleans Saints (TRADE to CARDINALS): Deone Bucannon S Washington St

A need at safety is obvious here and Bucannon is a hard hitting machine that I’m sure Kelly was checking out at his time with Oregon.

1.28 Carolina Panthers: Kelvin Benjamin WR Florida State

Big body from Cam to throw to and a hole filler that Steve Smith left. He’s not a finished product but some polishing from the veteran WR will make him shine.

1.29 New England Patriots: Dominique Easley DE Florida

High risk-high reward pick. Would make that Patriot front line very dangerous for opponents.

1.30 San Francisco 49ers: Jimmie Ward S Northern Illinois

That is 2 years in a row now that the 49ers take the safety we want! Now talks of converting him to corner… disappointing.

1.31 Denver Broncos: Bradley Roby CB Ohio State

Cornerback is a need for the Broncos and they jump on the DB run and grab a solid CB. Needs some polishing but will get better over time.

1.32 Seattle Seahawks (TRADE to VIKINGS): Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville

Minnesota liked him enough to snatch him away from Houston. They really did their homework on him, brought him in multiple times and finally comes off the board.

Best Available left on Board:

Morgan Moses OT Virginia

Derek Carr QB Fresno State

Marqise Lee WR USC

Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame

Jeremiah Attaochu OLB GA Tech

Joel Bitonio OT Nevada
