For this draft, I had the following objectives:
1) Trade down in the first, and get Jimmie Ward, who probably won't last until the 2nd round.
2) Based on what was said at the presser, don't make RT a top priority. Instead, wait until the 3rd round and get the best RT or OG available.
3) Meet needs at CB, RB, DE, ILB and DT.
4) Meet or exceed test of successful draft: land at least three starters.
I traded down with Carolina, which is desperate for starting OLs and WRs and needs to move up, particularly for LT. It gave me an extra 2nd and 3rd. After getting Ward in the bottom of the first, I figured I could gamble on the BPA in the mid-2nd before Mewhort was drafted, so I got Amaro. After Amaro, I got our next biggest need, a tall CB in McGill. Latimer was next - and before you complain he won't slide to the 3rd, just substitute the best WR available at this spot, because that's what I'd do. Sankey is my top RB after Hill (and Hill isn't a Harbaugh guy anyway). Brandon Thomas and Aaron Colvin slip to the 4thdue to their blown ACLs. When they recover, we'll have two nice starters, making this a great draft. Larry Webster and Avery Williamson both fit needs and have upside. Only miss is at DT, but there's always next year.
